The Tongsai Bay story began in 1985 when the late Khun Akorn Hoontrakul, Chairman of The Imperial Hotel Group, discovered the bay and purchased the land. The resort opened in 1987 as Samui's first five-star luxury hotel. In 1993, Khun Akorn retained the resort after selling his hotel group, hoping to spend his life there with his wife, Khun Chompunute.

In 2000, Khun Thanakorn and Khun Saisiri took over management, continuing Khun Akorn’s legacy of eco-conscious practices. In 2021, a partnership with Banyan Group was formed, continuing the mission of sustainability. Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui is committed to preserving its heritage and environment for future generations.
