Koh Samui is one of those places where the beach isn’t just a backdrop — it’s the heartbeat of island life. Every stretch of sand here has its own personality, from lively party shores to quiet hideaways where you can hear nothing but the waves.
Here are our five favourite beaches for 2025, and why they deserve a spot on your must-visit list.
Chaweng is Samui’s showstopper — a long ribbon of soft white sand that never seems to end. Mornings are calm and perfect for paddleboarding or an early swim, but as the day rolls on, cafés, restaurants, and beach bars start to hum with energy.
Local tip: Grab a fresh coconut from one of the beach vendors, then take a slow stroll toward the north end for the clearest, calmest water.
Why go now: In 2025, several new beachfront spots have popped up, mixing trendy cocktails with traditional Thai snacks.
Lamai has a similar long stretch of sand but with a softer pace. It’s lively enough to keep you entertained, yet relaxed enough that you can still hear yourself think.
Local tip: Head to the southern end to see Hin Ta and Hin Yai (the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks) — a quirky natural landmark with an equally quirky local legend.
Why go now: The recent beachfront clean-ups have made Lamai’s water clearer than it’s been in years.
Bophut offers more than just a place to sunbathe. The Fisherman’s Village along the shore is packed with boutique shops, cosy cafés, and some of Samui’s best restaurants. Here, you can spend the morning in the water, then wander straight into a market buzzing with life.
Local tip: Time your visit for a Friday evening — the night market turns the whole area into a vibrant street party.
Why go now: Several new dining spots have opened right on the sand, making sunset dinners here unforgettable.
Maenam is the kind of beach you escape to when you just want space — and lots of it. The sand is soft, the sea is calm, and the vibe is pure relaxation. You’ll often see families here, but it’s never crowded.
Local tip: Walk to the far western end for the best views across to Koh Phangan.
Why go now: The new beachfront walking path makes it even easier to explore the area without leaving the sea breeze behind.
Hidden between Chaweng and Lamai, Silver Beach (or Crystal Bay) is a pocket-sized paradise. The sand is powdery white, the water is so clear you can see your toes, and the surrounding rocks create a sheltered, calm bay.
Local tip: Bring a snorkel — the rocky edges are home to colourful fish just a few metres from shore.
Why go now: It’s still relatively under the radar compared to the big beaches, but word is spreading fast.
Each of these beaches has its own story, and the best part is how close they are to one another — you can easily beach-hop and discover a completely different vibe in less than half an hour.
