If you’re using a mobile number registered in Thailand, here’s a heads-up:
Thai authorities are currently reviewing about 700,000 mobile numbers registered to foreigners since January 1, 2022.
Why? To tighten digital security and make sure the name on your mobile banking account matches the person actually using the number.
But wait, there’s more...
There are also 1.8 million unverified numbers getting a closer look.
If you registered a SIM card, opened a bank account, or got a new number in the past two years, you might be on the list.
If your mobile number and your banking details are all in order, you’re fine.
If something doesn’t match, or you’re flagged, your bank will contact you directly.
If you hear nothing? Relax — no news is good news.
Deadline to update your details: April 30, 2025
If you don’t fix it? Mobile banking services could be cut off starting June 2025. Not ideal when you’re trying to order pad thai or transfer rent.
This cleanup is part of Thailand’s bigger effort to crack down on tech-related scams and fraud. (Which, frankly, sounds like a good idea.)
If you’re unsure, it’s worth double-checking with your mobile provider or bank now — before the cut-off. Better safe than frozen out of your own account.
